🔥 Heat Transfer Vinyl & Printed Transfers
Cut-vinyl HTV in glitter, holographic, reflective, and metallic finishes plus printed full-color heat transfers. Short-run apparel, names and numbers, and specialty effects no other process delivers.
Where Heat Transfer Wins
Specialty vinyl finishes, athletic names and numbers, and short-run apparel with quick turnaround.
Heat transfer vinyl (HTV) and printed heat transfers are two related processes that share the same final step: a precision-cut or printed graphic is heat-pressed onto a garment at 305-320 degrees Fahrenheit, bonding permanently with the fabric. What sets heat transfer apart is the variety of vinyl finishes that no other decoration method can replicate. Glitter HTV gives a real metallic sparkle that DTG, DTF, screen, and embroidery cannot match. Holographic and prismatic vinyls shift color as the garment moves under different lighting. Reflective vinyl bounces back headlight beams for safety apparel and high-visibility gear. Flock vinyl produces a soft, fuzzy, almost-suede texture that looks and feels like nothing else. When the design calls for a specialty finish, HTV is usually the only path that delivers it.
The other place heat transfer dominates is athletic names and numbers. For team uniforms, jerseys, and rosters, we cut individual names and numbers from athletic-grade HTV (typically a single solid color in a tackle-twill aesthetic) and press them onto the back of each jersey. The per-piece cost stays low because there is no per-name setup fee — the cutter just cuts the next name in the queue. Twill names and numbers can also be cut from layered vinyls for outlined varsity-style typography, which gives a classic athletic look that feels right for varsity teams, alumni programs, and league apparel. We routinely produce full team rosters of 30+ jerseys with individualized backs in three to five business days.
Printed heat transfers are the third arm of this category and serve a different niche. We print full-color CMYK plus white onto a heat-transfer film with adhesive backing, then heat-press the printed transfer onto the garment. The result is a full-color photo-quality graphic that bonds to any fabric (similar to DTF, with which it shares the underlying technology). Where HTV is best for solid-color specialty effects and athletic apparel, printed transfers are best when you need full-color or photographic graphics on a small run of garments. We use heat transfer for short runs, prototype tees, custom event apparel, and any project that calls for the specialty finishes that vinyl uniquely delivers. Send us your file and tell us what you are imagining, and we will recommend the right vinyl or transfer style for the look you want.
Heat Transfer Capabilities
HTV, specialty vinyls, and printed transfers for short-run apparel decoration.
Glitter & Metallic HTV
Real glitter and metallic foil vinyls in a dozen colors. Genuine sparkle and reflectivity that no print method (DTG, DTF, screen, sublimation) can replicate. Perfect for spirit wear, dance teams, and event tees.
Holographic & Prismatic
Color-shifting holographic vinyls that change appearance as the garment moves under different lighting. Wild visual effect for fashion brands, music merch, and statement apparel where you want maximum pop.
Reflective & Hi-Vis
Reflective HTV that bounces back headlight beams at night for safety and visibility apparel. Standard for crew shirts, runners, cyclists, and any high-visibility gear that has to be seen in low-light conditions.
Athletic Names & Numbers
Cut-vinyl names and numbers for team rosters, sports jerseys, and varsity apparel. No per-name setup fee — we just cut the next name in the queue. Layered varsity styles and athletic block fonts in stock.
Printed Heat Transfers
Full-color CMYK plus white printed onto transfer film, then heat-pressed to the garment. Delivers photo-quality graphics on any fabric for short-run apparel, similar process to DTF with vinyl-style application.
Felted Flock Vinyl
Soft, fuzzy, almost-suede vinyl finish that adds tactile texture to graphics. Feels premium under the fingers and looks distinctive against the cotton background. Common on retro varsity letters and badges.
What We Heat-Transfer Print
Apparel, accessories, bags, and headwear in short runs with specialty effects.
How to Order Heat Transfer Printing
Two to four business days for short-run specialty vinyl apparel.
Send Design & Vinyl Choice
Upload a vector file for HTV cutting or a 300 DPI PNG for printed transfers. Tell us the vinyl finish you want (glitter, holographic, reflective, flock) and the garment style. We will quote within hours.
Confirm Mockup
We send a digital mockup with your design on the actual garment color and a vinyl swatch reference for specialty finishes. Color confirmations and adjustments are free until you approve.
Cut or Print Transfer
HTV runs through our precision plotter, weeded by hand to remove the negative space, and prepped for press. Printed transfers print on our transfer film with adhesive cure before lamination.
Heat Press & Inspect
Garments aligned on press, transfer applied at 305-320F under pressure for 12-15 seconds, then peeled either hot or cold depending on vinyl type. Every piece inspected for full adhesion before delivery.
File Requirements
Vector files (AI, EPS, SVG, PDF) for clean cuts. Solid colors per layer — HTV is one color per sheet. For printed transfers send PNG with transparency at 300 DPI. Maximum print width is 22" for HTV; printed transfers up to 13"x19" per sheet.

What is HTV and how is it different from screen printing?
HTV (heat transfer vinyl) is a thin polymer vinyl with a heat-activated adhesive backing that gets cut to your design shape and heat-pressed onto a garment. It bonds permanently and survives normal washing for years. Screen printing pushes ink through a mesh stencil onto the garment, where the ink bonds with the fibers. HTV has a slight raised feel because it sits on top of the fabric; screen ink penetrates more and feels closer to the garment. HTV wins on specialty effects (glitter, holographic, reflective) and short runs; screen wins on bulk volume and softer hand at high quantity.
How durable is heat transfer vinyl?
Properly applied HTV survives 50+ wash cycles in normal home laundry, with most home users seeing several years of life from quality vinyl. Wash inside-out in cold water and tumble dry on low or hang dry for the longest life. Industrial laundry (commercial uniform programs) is harder on HTV than screen or sublimation, so for industrial-laundered uniforms we typically recommend screen or embroidery instead. The most common failure mode for HTV is edge lift after years of wear, where the corners begin to peel; this can be re-pressed with a household iron and parchment paper to extend life.
Can HTV be layered for multi-color designs?
Yes, multi-color HTV designs are produced by layering individual vinyl colors one on top of the other. The bottom layer is pressed first, then each subsequent color layer aligned and pressed on top. We can do up to 4-5 layers reliably; beyond that, the cumulative thickness becomes uncomfortable and the layers can begin to delaminate. For designs with more than five colors or photographic content, printed heat transfers (similar to DTF) are a better choice since they print all colors at once on a single transfer film without layering.
What specialty vinyl effects do you offer?
Our specialty vinyl library includes real glitter HTV, metallic foil, holographic and prismatic color-shift, reflective hi-visibility, soft flock (fuzzy texture), 3D puff, and printable HTV for full-color graphics. Each has a distinct visual or tactile character that no other print method can match. Glitter HTV is hugely popular for spirit wear and dance teams. Holographic is a fashion-brand favorite. Reflective is required for safety apparel. Flock gives a retro varsity feel. We will help you pick the right vinyl based on the look you are going for.
How does HTV compare to DTF and DTG?
HTV is best for solid-color specialty finishes (glitter, holographic, reflective) that DTF and DTG cannot reproduce. DTF and DTG are best for full-color or photographic graphics with no setup time, and they have a softer hand than HTV at small print sizes. For team rosters with names and numbers, HTV is usually the most economical and visually classic option. For event tees with full-color graphics, DTF wins. For premium soft-hand cotton tees with photo art, DTG is best. We pick the right tool for the project at quote time.
How long does heat transfer turnaround take?
Standard turnaround is 2-4 business days, faster than most of our other apparel processes because there is minimal setup involved. We can often complete same-day or next-day rush orders for local Dallas pickup when our schedule allows, particularly for simple HTV jobs like names and numbers. Larger orders of 100+ pieces or designs with multiple specialty vinyl layers will take a few days longer because of the per-piece weeding and pressing time. Confirm your deadline at quote time and we will lock in a delivery commitment.
