FAQ

Questions about HARO Outreach

If yours is not here, ask it in the form above and a strategist will answer.

What is HARO?

HARO started as Help A Reporter Out, a service where journalists post requests for expert sources. Today there are several similar journalist query services and feeds, and we monitor the ones that fit your industry rather than relying on a single source.

How many mentions will I get?

We cannot promise placements, because reporters choose which sources to use. What we control is how many relevant requests we answer and how good the answers are, and we report both alongside any mentions that publish.

Do I have to be involved?

A little. We need an initial interview and quick approvals on drafts, because answers go out under your name. Many pitches need only a light review from you before we submit them.

Will I get backlinks from mentions?

Sometimes. Many outlets link to the sources they quote, while others mention you without a link. Both build credibility, and we track which outlets link so we can favor them in future pitches.

Who should be the expert?

Usually the owner, founder, or a senior specialist with hands-on experience. Reporters want specific opinions and examples, so the best expert is the person who can speak to the topic without notes.
