Our UV printer lays down a white base, then prints CMYK on top in a single pass, producing photo-quality color that pops on any surface. We have printed on cutting boards, awards, signage, retail displays, vehicle hardware, kitchen tile, packaging mockups, and one-off art pieces. If you have an unusual substrate, send us a small sample and we will run a test print to confirm adhesion and color before quoting the full job. Materials we cannot print on include flexible textiles, certain silicones, and very oily or greasy surfaces.
Yes. UV-cured inks form a chemically bonded layer that is waterproof, scratch-resistant, and rated for several years of direct sun exposure without significant fading. UV printing is one of the few digital print methods we recommend for outdoor signage and exterior applications. For maximum outdoor life on signs, we can apply an additional UV-resistant clear coat that extends the rated life beyond 5 years. Compare this to inkjet or sublimation, which would fade visibly within a single season of outdoor exposure, and UV is clearly the right call for any weather-exposed application.
Yes -- white ink is one of the killer features of our UV printer. We lay down a white base layer first, then print CMYK on top in the same pass, producing full-color photo-quality output on dark wood, black acrylic, brushed aluminum, charcoal slate, or any other dark substrate. Without a white base, color disappears into the dark surface; with it, your graphics pop with full saturation and contrast. White can also be used as a spot color for printed text on glass, simulated frosted effects, or selective opacity behind lighter image areas. Flag white-ink requirements on your quote.
They serve different applications. Sublimation only works on polyester and pre-coated ceramic, and the dye becomes part of the substrate -- ideal for soft hand on apparel and durable photo mugs. UV prints on virtually any rigid substrate (wood, metal, glass, leather), is instantly cured, supports white ink for dark surfaces, and survives outdoor exposure. UV is more versatile for hard goods and signage; sublimation is more durable for apparel and dishwasher items. Many of our clients use both: sublimated mugs and UV-printed coasters for the same gift set.
Our flatbed UV printer accepts substrates up to about 4 by 8 feet in a single pass at substrate thicknesses up to several inches. Larger graphics are produced as multi-panel assemblies that we tile and align for final installation. Common large-format jobs include retail displays, trade-show signage, vehicle wraps printed on rigid panels, and large architectural sign panels. Substrate thickness up to 6 inches can clear the printhead, so we can print on stacked or built-up assemblies as long as the print surface is flat and within the head clearance.
Sometimes. If you want white as a base layer behind your full graphic on a dark substrate, we can usually generate the white channel automatically from your CMYK file. If you want white as a spot effect (white text on glass, partial white knockout, or selective opacity), include a separate spot color named White in your PDF and we will use it as the white-ink channel. We will review your file before printing and confirm the white-ink strategy with you on the proof so there are no surprises.
