We are not the cheapest. Here is the arithmetic.
Six ways to buy a logo, with the published prices, what each one actually delivers, and what each vendor says about it in their own written terms. Read it and decide. We have linked every source.
The six options, side by side
Published prices as listed by each vendor on 28 September 2026. Where a vendor does not publish a figure, this table says so instead of guessing.
| Option | Published price | What you actually get | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fiverr Logo Maker | $30 Essential $60 Professional $90 Unlimited |
Essential is PNG only, with no SVG, no brand guidelines and no revisions. SVG, a favicon, a social kit and a guidelines PDF start at the $60 tier. Extra revisions are $15 each below the top tier. | Fiverr states the licence is non-exclusive, that the seller keeps ownership, and that you “cannot resell, trademark, or claim exclusive ownership of the design”. It also states that “more than one client could technically choose the same design”. |
| Fiverr marketplace gig | $5 to $120 | Varies entirely by seller. Source files and commercial use are frequently priced as paid extras rather than included. | Commercial use can be sold as “Commercial Use, 1 Year”, which grants those rights for twelve months from delivery. An individual gig description can override the default IP assignment. No warranty is given. Seller location is not disclosed in the listing. |
| 99designs | $249 Bronze $399 Silver $799 Gold $1,050 Platinum |
Roughly 30 to 90 concepts depending on tier, then editable vector, EPS in CMYK and RGB, and copyright in the winning design. About 7 days for the contest rounds. | You see 90 concepts and own exactly one. 99designs states “all the unused design concepts remain the property of the designer”. A brand guide is not in the standard logo contest. Their transfer agreement notes the assignment may exclude rights in generative AI elements. |
| Looka | $35 Basic $72 Premium $96/yr Brand Kit $129/yr Brand Kit Web |
Basic is one low resolution PNG and nothing else. Vector formats, colour variations and changes begin at Premium. Brand guidelines and the 300 plus asset kit are subscription tiers. | Looka states its copyright “applies to your logo as a whole and not the individual elements”, that it is “unable to guarantee the copyright of the individual elements”, and that it does not remove those elements from its database after you buy. Terms retrieved September 2026 are dated 2019; help articles are dated 2021. |
| Offshore contractor | No reliable published figure. | Wide variance. Frequently excellent execution of a supplied brief, and frequently no strategy step, no production testing, and no one to call when a printer rejects the file. | Time zones and revision loops. No recourse if the mark turns out to be derived from stock artwork. Nobody has tested it on the substrate you are going to print on. |
| Local freelance designer | No independent published survey we could verify. | Often genuinely good, genuinely original work, and a real person who answers the phone. Frequently a logo and little system around it, because a system is a lot of hours. | Capacity and continuity. One person, one calendar. If they move on, your masters and your institutional knowledge can go with them. |
| Full branding agency | $10,000 to $49,999 typical | Strategy, research, a full identity system, and a long guidelines document. Genuinely thorough. | Price and timeline. Published agency rate cards run from $15,000 per month for a focused branding engagement up to six figures for a structural rebrand. Production is then outsourced to a printer who was not in the room. |
| MAD Monkey Media | $495 Logo Only $1,500 Basic $2,500 Standard $3,500 Premium |
Three hand drawn original concepts at every tier. Full vector masters and outright ownership at every tier including $495. From $1,500 up: colour system with Pantone, CMYK, RGB and HEX, typography, file usage guide and a printed brand identity book. At $2,500: logo variations, mark schematics, colour theory, a USB drive and all master files. | We are not the cheapest, and we will not pretend to be. We also will not sell you a tier you do not need. If a $495 mark is the honest answer for where your business is, we will tell you that. |
Prices and terms above were read directly from each vendor’s own published pages on 28 September 2026 and are linked in the section below. Vendors change prices without notice. If you find one of these out of date, tell us and we will correct it.
What they say about themselves
We are not going to characterise our competitors. We are going to link you to their own written terms and let you read them. This is the part of the purchase nobody reads until it matters.
You cannot trademark it, and it may not be exclusive
Fiverr’s help centre tells buyers the licence is non-exclusive and that you “cannot resell, trademark, or claim exclusive ownership of the design”. It also states that “more than one client could technically choose the same design”, because designs stay live on the marketplace after purchase.
Commercial use can expire after twelve months
Fiverr publishes a “Commercial Use, 1 Year” licence that grants usage rights for twelve months from delivery. The default IP assignment can also be overridden by an individual seller’s gig description, and no warranty is given with a delivery.
The icon in your logo is still in the pool
Looka’s help centre states that copyright “applies to your logo as a whole and not the individual elements”, that it is “unable to guarantee the copyright of the individual elements”, and that those elements are not removed from its database after a purchase. Its terms direct trademark questions to your own attorney.
You see ninety designs and own one
99designs states that “all the unused design concepts remain the property of the designer”. Its design transfer agreement also notes that the assignment may not include intellectual property rights in generative AI elements, depending on applicable law.
They ban AI in logo contests, and say why
99designs tells clients “we recommend that you do not allow designers to use generative AI” if they want to trademark or own copyright in the design, and states that AI generated content is not permitted in its logo, illustration or icon contests at all.
What we say about ourselves
Three original concepts drawn by hand, by a named designer, at every tier. Outright ownership of the master files at every tier, including the $495 one. No licence tier, no commercial use upsell, no expiry, and no design of yours stays in a pool for the next buyer.
The ownership question, stated accurately
There is a lot of loose and frankly wrong writing on this subject, most of it published by people selling logos. Here is the careful version.
AI generated artwork is not protected by copyright
Where the expressive elements of a work were determined by an AI tool rather than a human, that material is not protected by copyright, and the US Copyright Office requires it to be disclaimed on a registration application.
- US Copyright Office guidance, 88 Fed. Reg. 16190, 16 March 2023
- Copyright and Artificial Intelligence, Part 2: Copyrightability, January 2025
- Thaler v. Perlmutter, 130 F.4th 1039 (D.C. Cir. 2025), certiorari denied 2 March 2026
In practice that means the part of a generated logo you most want to stop a competitor copying may be the part you cannot claim.
That is a copyright limit, not a trademark bar
You will read that an AI or template logo cannot be trademarked. That is not correct, and we are not going to repeat it to win an argument.
Trademark registration turns on distinctiveness, use in commerce and likelihood of confusion, not on who authored the artwork. An AI or template logo can be registered as a trademark.
Our reasoning, offered as reasoning and not as authority: a logo built from an icon that remains available to other buyers is, in our view, more exposed to a likelihood of confusion refusal under 15 U.S.C. 1052(d), and to a non-distinctiveness or failure to function objection. See TMEP 1207.01(b), 1202 and 1202.11. The USPTO has published no conclusion about template logos specifically, and this page does not suggest that it has.
The number that actually decides this
Not the purchase price. The cost of doing it twice.
$269,000 to rebrand a small bank
Catalyst Bancorp, a small Louisiana community bank, disclosed in its FY2022 Form 10-K that pre tax rebranding costs totalled $269,000, including $55,000 of branch signage replaced because of the rebrand. Its net income for the same year was $180,000.
The rebrand cost about one and a half times the entire year’s profit.
$24,500 median rebrand budget
Sortlist reports that across a sample of 1,000 recent company rebrands on its platform, budgets ran from $10,000 to $60,000 with a median around $24,500. This is a vendor platform’s own project data, not an independent survey, and we label it as such.
$1,050 in filing fees alone, to register again
The USPTO fee schedule effective 19 January 2025 sets a base electronic application at $350.00 per class. Re registering a replacement mark across three classes is $1,050 in government filing fees before any attorney time, and the maintenance already paid on the old registration is sunk.
When you should not hire us
A comparison page where the author wins every row is an advertisement, not a comparison. Here are the cases where one of the options above is the right answer and we are not.
Go to a logo generator or a marketplace gig
- You are testing an idea you may abandon in ninety days and you need a placeholder, not an asset
- You need something on a slide by Friday and the budget is genuinely under a hundred dollars
- It is an internal project, a club, or a one off event that will never be printed at scale
- You already know you will redo it properly if the thing works
If that is you, buy the cheap one and do not feel bad about it. Just buy it knowing it is a placeholder, and read the licence.
Hire the $50,000 agency
- You need primary market research, naming, and a formal brand architecture across multiple business units
- You are raising institutional capital and the brand is part of the diligence
- You have an internal marketing team who will run the system and need a 90 page standards manual
- You have the budget and the twelve week timeline to do it properly
We are built for the business between those two poles, which is most businesses.
The one thing none of them can do
Every option above hands you a file and wishes you luck. We hand you a file and then print it, because the production floor is in the same building as the designer. When the mark comes off the heat press wrong, we are the ones who find out, and we find out before you have paid for two hundred shirts.
